Formula 1 driver Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a life-threatening incident during Sunday's F1 event in Mexico when two safety personnel ran across the track immediately ahead of his car

The dangerous situation happened on the third rotation when track officials were observed on the circuit as Lawson was getting back on the race following an early pitstop to change his broken nose section

Driver's Immediate Reaction

Moments later, the team's competitor Lawson communicated to his race engineer saying: "Is this for real? Did you just see that? I might have... taken their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was witnessing"

"I rejoined with a brand new hard tyres, and then I got to Turn One and suddenly there were two guys dashing across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, honestly, it was incredibly risky"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Evidently there's been a miscommunication somewhere but This is the first time I've faced that before, and I can't recall observing that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a ongoing race track marshals can be permitted to just dash across the track in such a way. I don't understand the reason, I'm certain we'll get some sort of explanation, but it really can't happen again"

Official Investigation Underway

Formula 1's governing body, the International Automobile Federation (FIA), is thoroughly reviewing the circumstances

"Following a turn one incident, race control was informed that wreckage remained on the track at the apex of that corner" declared the FIA

"On lap three, track officials were notified and made ready to enter the track and clear the fragments once all cars had passed"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the instructions to dispatch personnel were rescinded and a caution signal was shown in that zone"

"We are still investigating what transpired subsequent to that time"
