It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have long been mastered.

We're talking about the squad that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and once went 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, the ones sought by the record chasers, are the only things left for a squad that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's victory by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the highest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowlers that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It is hard for their hitters to hold a record if never given the opportunity.

Ultimately, the result of Australia conceding 330 was leader Alyssa Healy getting a chance to deliver her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the teenage relative of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country failed to win either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has experienced everything through 15 successful years since.

A T20 World Cup win happened three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was also there in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the successful run.

That loss "pushed us to rethink our standards," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the title decider and was declared player of the series. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

If this recent magnificent innings surpassed that earlier display is debatable.

Some will argue the case for championship match pressure. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when facing a record target and a raucous India-supporting crowd of 20,000.

What's definite is this century was far harder to anticipate.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this knock came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it's been a frustrating experience because it appeared I lacked timing whatsoever," commented Healy.

"However when you enter the playing area, your competitive nature kick in and you completely engage with the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her key asset - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the emerging pace bowler in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the bowler's initial ball and after that the batsman was in motion.

"The possibility to take the field and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment that way, sort of got me going," stated Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

When she was removed the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"To chase 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the assurance to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to repeat it but, should it happen, we believe we can achieve it."

These statements will be the last Australia's opponents at this tournament should hear.

During the last week a belief they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this triumph coming after success over Pakistan by 107 runs despite sitting at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before an encounter with old rivals England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was in the semi-finals they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of damaged tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at an important competition.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she wanted to have participated with the discomfort.

Yet even as she later admitted those injuries have pushed back plans to retire, this World Cup is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as captain.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
