The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Anger Regarding Sizing Modifications

Shoppers are voicing their frustration after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.

The second-hand shopping app has updated its sizing categories for women's and children's clothes failing to inform every member regarding the update.

Digital Channels Backlash

Countless users and merchants are posting online claiming that product pages now present a modified sizing category than originally posted because of the remapping.

Vinted explained the new system was more in line with other platforms.

The platform has recommended to review their products and adjust the sizing manually when needed, causing user dissatisfaction.

Measurement Approach Updates

Previously, the sizes had both one number and one letter, for instance S/8 or M/10.

The revised method features an alphabetical indicator and numerical range like S/UK 8-10.

With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - such as a large size used to be a 12 but is now a UK 16-18.

User Stories

Frankie Bridger, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, said the change "makes both selling and buying harder".

"Not many brands say XL is a 20-22," as the platform currently indicates.

A different member, from Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as larger sizing 20-22.

"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they're going to be very disappointed," she explained.

Required Changes

Another shopper, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated by the change as she had to manually change the sizes on "every single listing".

"This situation is especially annoying, since I have chronic health issues and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she explained.

Service Background

The service features exceeding 100 million members, including 18 million in the UK.

It has emerged as a preferred choice versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.

This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change within the service has received backlash: previously, Vinted reversed a change regarding delivery choices following member complaints.
